Admission: free
Join local folklorist and writer Brandon Weston, who will present Ozark Healing Traditions: A Hidden Art at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. In this installment of our Not Strictly History series, we will look into the world of Ozark folk healers of the past and present. Using the tools and items loaned by Weston to the Shiloh Museum’s Ozark Home, Beyond the Frame exhibit as a guide, we’ll dive into the hidden world of the healer and answer some valuable questions. How did Ozark healers get their abilities? How has faith and spiritual life influenced traditional healing? How have the traditions of the past been brought into the modern world? And perhaps the most burning question: are there still healers in these hills?
This free in-person event is also available for viewing live online, which is limited to 100 participants. Registration is required. After you register, you will receive an email confirmation with a Zoom link to join the event.
The presentation is sponsored by KUAF 91.3 Public Radio.
