Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, 118 W. Johnson Ave., Springdale AR 72764
Admission: free (registration required)

Join our staff-led session Saturday, July 26, for insights on digitizing photographs and documents to ensure their preservation. Discover the museum’s archiving methods for printed materials and gain valuable information on safeguarding your own cherished items. The first half of the workshop will focus on the care and preservation of photograph collections. It will include a brief introduction to the history of photography and the most common types of photographs. Staff will also provide suggestions to attendees on how to organize, document, handle, store, and display their personal photograph collections. Participants should bring two photographs and a photocopy of each photograph made in advance as staff won’t be able to provide the service at the workshop. These photos will be used for a hands-on activity that will include storage and documentation of photos. There will also be a box-folding demonstration for archival storage.

The second half of the workshop will focus on capturing, storing and documenting digital images. There will be a quick discussion of copyright, storage practices, file types and metadata (documentation) of digital files. Participants should bring two photographs, a photocopy of each photograph, and either their personal camera or their phone for digitizing the images.

Session will include examples of supplies and equipment recommended by staff depending on their level of interest and budget. Registration is required and limited to 40 participants.

This event is part of our Shiloh Summer Series, Snapshots of the Past.
