    In this session of our Little Historians series, pre-kindergarten students will explore how people lit their homes before the invention of electricity. Using artifacts from our education collection, children will get an up-close look at vintage candle molds and lanterns. The program features: Storytime and Music: An engaging historical storybook followed by a lively song-and-dance activity. Hands-on Craft: Every student will hand-roll their own beeswax candle to take home. Perfect for curious toddlers and preschoolers, this program blends sensory play with Ozark heritage. Note: This program meets at the Steele General Store on the museum grounds. Please arrive a few minutes early to get settled!

  • Little Historians: Trains!

    Join us for a special Little Historians program designed to introduce pre-kindergarten students to the iron horses of the past. We’ll explore how trains helped shape our region by getting hands-on with artifacts from our education collection. Our conductor-led activities include: Interactive Storytime: A railway-themed book that brings history to life. Movement: A "train in motion" activity to help little ones burn off some steam. Creative Craft: A train-related project for students to build and take home. This program is perfect for preschoolers who love things that go! We invite you to gather at the Steele General Store on the museum grounds as we track the fascinating history of travel in the Ozarks.
