The following podcasts explore musicians from Arkansas as well as musical experiences. The museum values the history of Arkansas singers and music festivals in the area. Read about the 1973 Ozark Mountain Folk Fair, an event held only once and featuring many folk musicians. 

The Music of Winter’s Bone

Winter’s Bone is a book by Ozark author Daniel Woodrell. The 2006 book was turned into a film shot around Branson, Missouri. In May 2010 the producers of Winter’s Bone collaborated with the Shiloh Museum to premiere the film in Arkansas. Before the premiere, director Debra Granik, music advisor Marideth Sisco, and some of the musicians held a performance and Q&A at the museum. Recorded May 16, 2010.

Jimmy Driftwood at 100

Dr. Brooks Blevins is a former professor of history at Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas and currently teaches at Missouri State University. Dr. Blevins discusses the life and times of folk singer Jimmy Driftwood in this recording. This podcast was recorded at the 14th annual Talking Ozarks Symposium held at the Shiloh Museum in September 2007.

Prof. Chalon Ragsdale of the University of Arkansas Department of Music explores folk song collecting using the work of two 20th-century collectors as examples: Percy Grainger, who collected in England; and Mary Celestia Parler, who collected in Arkansas. Recorded October 20, 2010.
