IN-PERSON AND ONLINE EVENT
Wednesday, June 15, 2022
6:30 p.m.
Presented by Michael Bennett-Spears
Free

Please join us as Michael Bennett-Spears shares the history of Pride, and other Observed Days such as the Day of Silence, and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole in order to find ways to carry the spirit of Pride forward throughout the year while incorporating it into our daily lives. We will also discuss the importance of intersectionality in the movement forward for LGBTQ+ rights.

Michael Bennett-Spears is a native Arkansan and community advocate. He grew up in a rural community, and is passionate about fighting for the LGBTQ+ community in Arkansas and the South. As an advocate, Michael has worked with groups to pass a civil rights ordinance protecting people from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, and helped organize the first Pride Festival in Siloam Springs where he lives with his husband. In 2020, Michael became the first openly LGBTQ+ candidate to run for Arkansas State Representative in his district and currently sits as NWA Chair of The Arkansas Stonewall Democratic Caucus. He also serves on the Siloam Springs PRIDE Planning Committee. Michael currently works as the Program Director for The Equality Crew, a nonprofit dedicated to creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth in NWA.

This in-person event is also available for viewing live online. Please note this free online event is limited to 100 participants. Registration is required. After you register, you will receive an email confirmation with a Zoom link to join the event.
