Calling All Quilters, Artists and Crafters

Creative Submissions Wanted!

As part of a series of updates to the historic grounds of the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, the museum is seeking letters of interest from local quilters, artists and crafters for the design of an outdoor shade canopy that will cover a new stage and seating area located near the entrance to the museum. The selected artist will create 2-3 quilt-inspired designs that will be digitized by the museum and printed on the outdoor shade canopies. These designs should be inspired by the history, ecology and cultures of the Arkansas Ozarks. If needed, the museum can help digitize a fiber-based design (quilt squares for example). This update to the Shiloh Museum grounds is supported by a Community Placemaking Grant from Project for Public Spaces awarded to the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in 2023. 

Applicants:

Any quilter, artist or crafter based in the six counties of the Arkansas Ozarks that the museum serves (Benton, Boone, Carroll, Madison, Newton, Washington) and ages 18+ may apply. Artists of all experience levels are encouraged to apply. 

Application Timeline:

July 10, 2024 – Initial artist application and materials due

July 17, 2024 – Artists notified and selected artist announced

How to Apply:

Submit the following information on the online form on this page:

• Contact Information for lead artist (name, mailing address, email, phone number)
• Brief description of interest in the project and approach to artmaking (500 word max)
• Bio or resume; if you have multiple team members, please keep biographical info to one page
• Upload a pdf that includes a description of up to seven work samples, including title, year, medium, dimensions, and images of each work sample

Selection Process and Deadlines:

Shiloh Museum Staff will review all initial submissions to determine eligibility. Applications will then be reviewed by a Selection Committee composed of stakeholders, artists and community members. Selection of winning artist will be based on the following criteria:

• Quality of letter of interest and connection to the site
• Quality of work samples
• Ability of artist(s) to complete project based on bio and prior work experience

Budget Information:

Total artist design fee: $2,500. Included in this fee are the canopy design, technical drawings and meetings with Shiloh Museum staff. Fabrication/printing expenses will be covered by the Shiloh Museum. The Shiloh Museum will retain image rights for the submitted designs.
